Farmer Tom Barse grows his own hops at Stillpoint Farm, and makes some great brew. Milkhouse Brewery is the first farmhouse brewery in Maryland, thanks to a recently passed law that allows for self-distribution by farm brewers. I think the brewery is only a year old. The tasting room is well worth a visit when you want to take a scenic country drive and try some really good beer. Fresh hops and no filtration make the difference. There were 6 or 7 choices ranging from porter, stout, farmhouse ale, to IPA's. They also sell cases of 22 oz bottles which you can mix and match, and a selection of packaged farm cheeses, from PA and MD. I suggest bringing some beer friendly foods and sandwiches for a leisurely lunch on the patio, if the weather is nice. Yes, it is out of the way unless you live somewhere near I-70, in which case it is pretty easy to get to. I highly recommend a visit.

I came across this brewery while planning a day out for our family and friends. We were excited to see that they were open on Saturday, that there would be outdoor seating, live music, and that children were welcome. My husband and a friend both got a flight of 6 beers to try out the various choices before ordering a pint of their favorite. The website says that they suggest bringing food with you like a pizza or sandwiches since they do not serve food (only local cured meats and cheeses to pair with the beers) we wish that we had, because once we were seated at our picnic table we didn't want to leave :0)The view is a vast and beautiful landscape of rolling green hills on this little piece of heaven brewery at the top of a hill on a farm. There was lots of green space for the kids to run around and roll down the hills. They ended up having a packed outdoor area with tons of families and it was delightful way to spend an hour and a half on a Saturday. We can't wait to return with a picnic basket, some blankets and toys for the kids so we can stay longer this next visit.

I visited the Milkhouse Brewery with my husband, our one year old son, and some friends. I was leery about brining a baby to a brewery but I was shocked to see how many families there were! We visited on a Sunday night and they had great live music in their outdoor pavilion. There are many tables to sit as well as grassy space for kids to play lawn games or throw down a picnic blanket.Keep in mind they only sell Beer and a few cheeses. They welcome you to bring your own food and snacks. It was a great visit... I just wish it was closer to home!

My husband and I have stopped by three times now. The owner is always behind the bar. He grows his own hops and brews all the beer. Always has several types on tap and will give great recommendations. Small tap room inside, they have placed tables in the "work room" for overflow. If you time it right and the weather is nice the outside patio is great. The views are unreal of the surrounding farmland. There is nothing else around so this is the type of place you stop by on your way somewhere else, but it is worth the stop. They also sell cheese and cracker's (very good local cheese).
