The Wild Center is a great place to go for kids and adults both. It has beautiful exhibits and interpretive displays. We have only been there during the fall but plan to return during the summer to see the outside areas and the new wild walk that takes you around a lake and eventually into tree tops. The center is located in Tupper Lake about 1/2 hour drive from Lake Placid, well worth the trip and always a beautiful drive.

One thing we can do because we are in the woods is offer visitors a lot of one on one, which we like to do, and are so glad you and your family took full advantage. When I ask the staff to describe their favorite memories at the Center it is always a story about a person or family that started asking questions and the exchange that happened once that started. It sounds as if your visit is in some staff person's favorite memories list already.

This is always a favorite for our family. Our 6 year old LOVES it and we spend most of the day there. Lots to see and a lot of interactive activities.

This place is great. The staff was friendly, the area was clean, and it held our interest. It is small, and it's displays are not terribly expansive, but you can easily spend an entire day taking it all in. This was one of the highlights of our trip and we will certainly return if presented the opportunity. It should appeal to all ages, but a certain sense of appreciation for nature is required.

We work to have events for all ages, and customize our personal interactions for each visitor. Our staff are avid outdoors people, climb peaks, paddle white water, ski the back country and are really happy to take visitors on any kind of an experience, from beginner to a full chance to learn about wild things like falcon hunting techniques or the underground lives of winter animals. I hope you come back, climb up Wild Walk, and engage some of our 30 staff with your questions about what makes this wild world so amazing for all of us, regardless of age.

My family of four with two teenage boys loved the Wild Center. It was the highlight of our tip to Lake Placid and we'll worth the drive to Tupperware Lake. The exhibits are extremely well made and instructive.

I attended The Wild Center for a professional education conference and the staff were so accommodating and great. They were able to help with a my technology needs. The food was great also! During the lunch hour we were able to look around the museum and interact with an animal outside of its enclosed. It's a really fascinating museum that showcases the natural history and ecosystem of the Adirondacks.

Fascinating place to learn about habitat and wildlife of Adirondacks. Allow 2-3 hours to see everything. Have directions as not too many signs in town.

I was here with family early October, this is a gem. We first walked some of the trails on the grounds, was met by a doe and two of her kids :) Was nice and peaceful, lots of history of the region and the different animals that populate in the area. They are working on a sky walkway that opens next year, that will be a whole new experience. I highly recommend the "behind the scenes" tour, gives you different insight in keeping this place running. Well worth the time to visit here

Thanks so much for this. These kinds of experiences make our days.

My wife and I loved the Wild Center We arrived at 11:15am, and contrary to some reviews on TripAdvisor, it takes longer than 2 hours to see all of it. We left at 3pm, and we only covered the inside attractions. We never did get outside to experience the trails because of the rainy cold weather, but we plan to return when they finish the Wild Walk in July, 2015. Well worth the $34 that we spent!

The wild center offers both an indoor museum and an outdoor area to explore the Natural History of the Adirondacks. Inside, there are a number of fabulous videos about the area. The one which is just photos of the area set to music is particularly wonderful. Many of the exhibits are live animals for viewing inside. They have naturalist talks about the animals and bring them out for close inspection by the guests. The walk with the naturalist was particularly good. The guys name was Larry something and he really knew the area, the animals, and the surroundings and gave a wonderful presentation and was able to answer nearly any question that was asked of him as we walked down to the Oxbow. There are a number of nice trails with explanatory signs, a large pond which is at eye level from the museum, and next year they will open a canopy walk which looks like it will be spectacular.

I agree with the reviewer who said there is no much to see and do. Especially considering $17 ticket. It is very kid-oriented, so if you are going with the little one you will have a great time. For the adults - not so much. It took us 15 min to go through the inside exhibits. Outside trails are nice and well maintained, but there are plenty of them in Adirondacks for free. Also, as long as the trail can be accessed from the parking lot and has no gates or warning that you need to pay in order to enter it I got an impression that you can walk the trail for free. Maybe after the suspended walking bridge is finished (July 2015) it will be more interesting, but I bet the price will go up then.

This is a hidden gem of the Adirondacks. If you're visiting and within an hour and a half drive, by all means go. When the suspended outdoor walking bridge is completed, it will be terrific. I especially like the globe exhibit, the otters and the children's touch and experience exhibits.
