My family loves to camp here and we always have a great time. The campsites are clean, well set up, quiet, and with good amenities nearby. The lake is fun and you can get a lot of exercise walking around seeing the sights!

We joined about 30 other hikers for "The First Hike" with a guided hike by Ranger Mark Houston. Prior to the hike the restaurant was open and the hikers had a choice of hot chocolate, coffee, water and cookies. We took a three mile hike on the Pioneer Short Loop tail. It was a pretty pleasant morning and it felt good to take in some fresh air. Ranger Mark was very knoweldgeable regarding the park's history and the sorrounding areas. He pointed out several undertakings by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps). He was also able to answer many questions from the hikers. We were able to go inside the recently renovated bath house which now holds pictures and information regarding the park. The renovation of the building is awesome. I especially like the walkway made from Tenessee Crab Orchard stone and the copper gutters.

Great place to visit and wonderful restaurant! The restaurant had a wonderfully delicious Prime Rib Buffet for New Year's Eve. The trails and cabins looked very nice and well kept, too.

I live fairly close to this park and I had no idea all the things this place had to offer. Has one of the most absolutely beautiful trails I've ever hiked. It has became one of my most places to go run. The views and the atmosphere of the whole park is unbelievable. Try it out

Spent several days at the Cumberland Mountain State Park over the Thanksgiving holiday. Enjoyed the time to be away to relax and do some hiking. We stayed in the "rustic" cabins (only ones available on short notice). It had everything we needed but it was sparsely furnished. It would have been nice to have better lighting. The full sized mattress was a problem. The sheets wouldn't stay tucked in and we both tended to roll to the middle causing some sleepless nights.Enjoyed two hikes and our Thanksgiving dinner at the park restaurant.

We took a hike on a Monday after stopping in to the park office. The 3 mile hike was nice, we were the only people around. There were a couple of streams flowing into the lake which had a slight odor in some places. There was a neat suspension bridge which was fun to cross. We told the lady at the park office that we were going to hike and then eat at the restaurant at the end of the hike. She, unfortunately, failed to mention that the restaurant is closed on Mondays! Such a bummer!!We have eaten at the restaurant in the past and enjoyed the cafeteria buffet for lunch. It isn't gourmet, but is nice for a state park restaurant.

We camped for the wknd & it was ok. Campsite had some trash laying around & water seemed to drain through it. Not to mention a trail to the "camp store" went through the middle of our site. The store I mentioned was really disappointing there was literally nothing in it. Just a little A-frame building that handles the camp site reservations. There is a lake there but it isn't anything special. The camp host told me fishing was a waste of time. The bath house was clean, & they have showers. But the hiking trail is uneventful & that sums the whole place up. If you look up images all you will find are pics of the big bridge. Thats it for scenery. Staff were friendly but it wasn't what I was looking for. I doubt we go back.

We rented a $120 per night "Timber Lodge" at this State park and the maintenance was far from up to snuff. The bathroom toilet was mounted so close to the vanity that you had to sit crooked on the john. Light bulbs were burned out and the A/C filter was encrusted with lots of dirt; who knows when it was changed last. We went two days in a row to rent a canoe down by the lake and no one was there. Finally we called the Park Office to inquire why? (The rentals are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, they told us!) There was no sign on the rental door for hours of operation and the handbook didn't mention hours or days of weekly operation. The check in/out times on the web site differs from the handbook they provide in the cabin. All beds are full size in this cabin which is supposed to house about 8 people. Linens and kitchen equipment was way short of "inventory list" when we checked in. It seems we had rented a "Motel 6" type of place. The trail we hiked on had a few large trees fallen over trail; needs more maintenance. On the plus side, the staff is nice and so is the fireplace. They supply all wood needed for no additional charge. Some nice views of the lake.

Started with the Byrd Lake and Pioneer Short Loop Trail - roughly 2+ miles. Had country buffet lunch which was well cooked, delicious and inexpensive. Finished with Cumberland Plateau and Byrd Creek Trail - another 2+ miles to walk off the lunch - banana pudding still weighing in the stomach. Surprised there was no charge for entry into the park. All in all a lovely day and the weather was just right.

love love love didn't get to stay in the cabin this time. But will definitely make it a point to stay in them on my next trip! But did eat at the restaurant it was delicious. The food was fresh and well prepared . Also took my kids on the paddle boats. It was only 2.50 for an hour !!! We didn't have a lot of money to spend so this was great for our budget. And we all loved the paddle boats and the lake was beautiful. Would recommend EVERYONE to visit this park.

I have walked all of the trails in this park. They are mildly to moderately challenging, good for a simple afternoon. The restaurant is a typical state park buffet, plenty of average food. Eat somewhere else, enjoy the trails and scenery.

The buffet was inexpensive and delicious, included large salad bar and fried and baked chicken, roast beef and ham, assorted veggies, and large dessert selection - especially liked the banana pudding and molten chocolate cake. Great view of the lake and park.

A favorite park from my childhood. Beautifully kept grounds with a pristine lake in the center. Nice for picnicking, camping, hiking, swimming (very large and nice pool within the park) and eating. The restaurant is something to brag about!

We had an enjoyable time. We rented 2 paddleboats for $2.50 each and the canoe was free! There were many picnic tables to choose from. It was a lovely day!
