I grew up just a couple of miles from Froelich, Iowa. I remember frequently going to trade at the old general store with my dad. Back then I did not know the significance of this little town. This place brings back some good memories. Miss the beautiful country side of northeast Iowa. This is definitely worth your time to stop and visit.

This is an extremely enjoyable guided tour. It is very educational. Don't cut it short, be sure to view both videos and tour all buildings.

I'm not a fan of tractors being a city girl but my husband wanted to stop by on a road trip to Dubuque this year.A nice set of buildings and the docent, Denise, gave an in depth and interesting tour of the museum. She was great with my special needs daughter and even let her ring the school bell.We had a very nice time. On the way home, be sure to look for the area farms selling honey! A local beekeeper was selling her honey at a scenic Mississippi river overlook.

My boys and I (ages 4 and 6) had the BEST time at the museum! Our guide, Denise, did a fabulous job of teaching and entertaining the entire group, which included many kids and adults. The schoolhouse and general store are amazing - I actually feel like I know what they looked like "back then". And all of the exhibits contained interesting items and were described and demonstrated very well by Denise. On a day that also included hiking, pie, and playgrounds, my 6 year old told me that this tour was his favorite thing!

Froelich is a tiny town in NE Iowa and is home to the first gas powered tractor. The restored General Store is a fantastic look back into local history and the restored barn is super. A great place to visit, off the beaten track.

I stopped by this charming little museum when my dad and I were driving around northern Iowa. There is a memorial commemorating the invention of the first gas-powered tractor by local inventor John Froelich, so my dad, a John Deere retiree, dragged me there somewhat against my will. I was pleasantly surprised. This is a small, locally-run museum with very friendly and accommodating staff who have a lot of pride in their tiny village. There are several historic buildings, including a one-room school, general store, and some ag-related buildings. There's a short film about Froelich's first tractor, which was pretty interesting. They also have some scale model semi-trucks which were built by a local hobbyist--I had seen miniature trains before, but this was my first miniature semi. They have a fall-der-all celebration in late September, and I'm thinking of stopping back for that.
