They restored the courthouse about 10 years ago . It took years ,but it is a wonderful example of a true Texas courthouse . Has the original atrium up the center . All old woodwork is there , Stone and brick exterior ..Original doors , steps . A must see if you're coming through Fayette county .

I didn't go inside, but the building itself is something to see. Like all of the old Texas County Courthouses, this building holds significant historic value. It's worth a look.

Truly enjoyed the architecture and workmanship in this stately building. Gorgeous atrium with fountain in the center of the building. A friendly and knowledgeable docent was there to answer questions and provide information. Great visit.

This courthouse was constructed in 1842 and the rock used is various colors that create a most beautiful structure. The Eagle over the front entrance is a most special creation of beauty. The center of the building is open space that was originally open to the Texas skies, but it is now covered to allow climate control throughout the facility. The courtroom is a majestic work of art using woods of various types that brings warmth to the chambers. Texas courthouse enthusiast will find this to be one of the most awesome in the state.

This courthouse has been lovingly take care of, and is a wonderful place to visit....the courtroom is open if there's not a trial, etc. Do go in and sit down..the chairs are reproductions of the original ones. There is a tour of the building on Saturdays...free, of course. We take our out of town guests here...and they are always amazed. Take time to look at the photographs of some of the past leaders of Fayette County. There's also a registry book of those who served their country from Fayette County.

This architectural 19th C masterpiece is the jewel in the historic crown of Fayette County. A publicly accessible "castle" with stairs, balaconies, indoor fountains, arcades, doors with transoms, turrets, antiquitous grace and legacies we continue to build on for tomorrow's generation. I remember as a child hearing my father, William Alley Brown, orate from the defenents table for his legal client, His voice caries through the open windows of the 2nd floor court Room and rain upon those like me on the sidewalk around that side of the square. "That's you dady, honey. He is trying a legal case to help someone who needs justice. We can be very proud of him." my mother, Ann said so sweetly to me (1960, ki was then only 5 years old.)
