Would love to have seen it and bought some wine but was closed at 2pm Wed 15 Oct 2014..... :( instead we are off to lunch at Thornton Grill in Sperryville which is open! Shame, we came down off Olg Rag mountain in driving rain to see sharp rocks winery..... :(

While having a smaller tasting room than many of the wineries, they were able to accommodate a group of 10 very easily (do call ahead) good wines, beautiful location (tho remote) I loved the old barn that houses the tasting room. the only negative is that they would not let me take the most sweetest cat, Ray Ray home. He is truly loved and will bring you joy holding him.

It's a hard winery to find near the base of Old Rag. The wine selection is good, although many of the wines tended to have a very mineral-y taste to them which wasn't my favorite. Regardless, a great winery and the owners are extremely nice and accommodating!

A little hard to find but worth the drive. Good wine reasonably priced. Man working there was knowledgeable about the wines and recommended a couple for my sweet tooth.

loved visiting this vineyard. Many tastings for the $5 price. Bought a couple of bottles to take home, got one cold one to open and eat some meat, cheese and crackers that they had for sale.

The wedding was up on the hill and overlooking the vineyard. The reception was on the flat in a field under a huge tent. Food was provided by 2 food trucks. It was fun and a beautiful place for a wedding.

A great small feel winery super close to Old Rag that welcomes hikers with a friendly staff, so don't worry about showing-up sweaty or in your hiking clothes. The scenery is great with panoramic views of Old Rag Mountain from a back upper level porch. There are plenty of chairs, tables, and hammocks outside so after the wine tasting (~7 wines for $5) grab your favorite wine (mine was the Pinnacle, a Malbec and Cabernet blend) and enjoy some relaxing time post your big hike!

My wife and I stayed in the Cottage with a couple of good friends and had a wonderful time. We arrived on Friday after the tasting room had closed and Jimm was gracious enough to open the tasting room for us and let us sample his wines. As with each time we have been there before, the wines were outstanding. The Cottage was definitely an awesome get away and the absence of television and cell service didn't bother us one bit! We will definitely bring a fishing rod next time to try and get a trout from the river running through the property. We make Sharp Rock Vineyards a regular stop each time we head towards Sperryville to sample the wines from the many vineyards in that area. Without a doubt, Sharp Rock is our favorite vineyard in that area. Jimm and Kathy are wonderful hosts and the wines are excellent. We will be back soon!!

What I liked about Sharp Rock is the very personal feel. This was our last winery for the day, as part of a weekend bachelorette party. Although they were about to close for the day, the staff did not make us feel unwelcome; in fact, they accomodate our group and patiently answered our questions. By the way, the tasting room is upstairs, not on the ground floor. When you enter the building, you initially think you've entered a storage area because what you first see are the wine barrels. Sharp Rock is a nice place to just hang out and enjoy the wine. It feels very peaceful. I would come back again.

We stopped by on a Cold Saturday in Feb and were surprised by the beauty and friendliness. The owner did our tasting so we learned everything about each wine. We had a great conversation with him and felt very welcome. We had a hard time picking which wines to purchase as everything we tasted was above average and most unique.

Stayed at the B&B in the Carriage House mid week, so had a quiet time there. Place is rustic and you feel you have stepped away from the real world in a good way. We were off the grid! No cell coverage or Wifi. It was a nice feeling. Carriage house completely comfortable, the air conditioning was actually quieter than a Hampton Inn we had stayed at the night before. Breakfast was good fresh fruit and a fresh warm cinnamon cake that you eat in your cottage. Jimm the owner did it all and provided us great insight to the workings of the winery, and gave us a fresh pressed cup of chardonnay juice from a recent pressing that was fantastic. His wine catalog is mostly dry wines that are completely representative of that area of Virginia. Very good, and better pricing than larger winerys nearby that focus more on curb appeal. Would definitely visit again. Came back home to PA via Skyline drive and a small bear crossed the road in front of us in the middle of the day. So cool. Ate at Thortons, and visited Copper Fox Distillery (Get the Rye). Neat to have a small place like this where you have both the winery and BB in one stop for a reasonable price, along with a very friendly host.

This was a small winery and the tasting was conducted by the owner. I really enjoyed the experience because it was not an enormous place. I would definitely go back just to sit on the porch and look at the scenery. This is close to the Conyers House Inn and Stable.

A great location, great wines and a superb host make for a wonderful rustic, "unplugged" getaway. We've been several times now to the winery and B&B and will keep coming back for the quiet ambiance, wines and hospitality. Trek up Old Rag and come back and soak your feet in the Hughes River while quaffing Jimm's excellent Cab-based Virginia Rose; perfect for a summer day! Grill on the deck of the cottage, watching the sun sink over the mountains. Hike the Shenandoah NP trails. Catch up on your reading, and enjoy the wine dogs and wine cats...you'll be glad you did...

Stop in, I was delighted with the uniqueness of wines but the real honey in this vineyard would be the views and nature's hospitality. Try the Cab Franc, a pretty unique style for VA wines and also one of the two rose wines. The winemaker has an adroit sense of humor and is most entertaining as well as knowledgeable, worth listening to. Want to stay there, but for now the wine and grounds are a blessing.

We loved this place! First, we climbed Old Rag Mountain about two years ago, and haven't been back since, and this vineyard is right at the base of the mountain. In fact, the owner told us that most of his visitors are hikers. We showed up at 11 a.m. on a Saturday, and the owner greeted us and directed us up to the top of a barn (it used to be a hog barn). First, I love wine tastings in old barns. There's just something really special about it to me. The commercialized buildings just aren't as enjoyable. The owner gave us nine tastings that day. All of the wines were very interesting. I am not a Chardonnay drinker, and I made my husband buy me a bottle. It was very smoky from the oak, and therefore, suitable for this red wine drinker. I also enjoyed the Rose Noir. The bottles were fairly priced, and we left with two bottles. As a side note, the tasting is $4 for eight delicious wines normally - a great price! The owner was very friendly and sociable, and we had a great time talking with him and learning about his wine. There is some seating inside the barn, but there was quite a bit outside on a covered patio and in the yard, overlooking the vineyards and the Old Rag. There was a little cat running around out there while we were taking some photos, and the cat was almost like a dog. He was running alongside of us and following us around with the loyalty of a dog. I was certain he was going to try to jump in our car with us when we left. My husband really enjoyed this. We had a great time here, and we have already determined that we will be back in the future. Also, the winery has a bed and breakfast, so it would be fabulous to spend the day hiking Old Rag, and stay at the bed and breakfast/winery.Great place. Great owner. Great views. Great wine. A must-visit Virginian vineyard.
