This memorial may not be known. There is a sign off Antioch with an arrow to point you in the direction. As horrible as that tradegy was for the U.S., this memorial gives you details of that day that changed our lives. There is a wall that describes everything that happened that day with the time it happened. A section of a beam from one of the twin towers is erected there as well. Seeing this gave me more perspective and great knowledge of September 11, 2001. Impressive... a must see free memorial.

This is a great memorial, very informative with and actual piece you can touch, makes for a real connection. Very well designed for the whole family. Easily added to any day trip, 1 hour tops..

I'm so proud of the Overland Park fire department and the City of Overland Park for making this memorial a reality. It's design is so meaningful. It's worth the drive, and if you live in Kansas City, you need to search it out. It's not on a major street or at a busy intersection, but it is easy enough to find!

September 11, 2001 is my generation’s Pearl Harbor. The Fire Department of Overland Park and the City of Overland Park as well as the Community has done a beautiful job constructing this memorial. Each year, beginning around 7:30AM (Central time) there is a ceremony. There is a 14 foot beam from the World Trade Center which is the center focus of the memorial. There is also a long “plaque” with all the names of the people murdered that day. There is also a set of four tablets, one for each aircraft, which represents a timeline of that day. There is also a beautiful metal fountain which represents the image of tears washing away the fallout dust from the faces of people on the street that day.My wife and I have been to the WTC several times before Sept. 11th, and she also knew several people who worked at Cantor Fitzgerald. We will never forget.

I drive by it all the time, and never really noticed the small sign that said we have a 9/11 memorial in our neighborhood. One afternoon, my husband and I decided to stop in and see it. It's located next to a firehouse training facility, but it's a thoughtful, quiet space that pays tribute to those who lost their lives on 9/11.

Small, but moving. There is a large piece of one of the Towers and a detailed events timeline engraved on large bronze plaques. Outstanding.

If you don't know about the Memorial, or don't happen to see the signs for it while driving on the city streets, you'd probably never know that this Kansas town has a great 9-11 memorial! It is on the property of a fire station/training facility, but it open to the public with a large parking lot right next to it.The memorial is great; the centerpiece is a beam from one of the WTC towers, but around it are panels detailing the events of the day, and panels listing all those who lost their lives in the attacks. The entire memorial has a good balance of information and honor, and is a great place to reflect on the enormity of what happened that day.You can watch a video about it on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABbGvbW18A8&feature=youtu.be
