Although the area is known for the wineries and their attractions; on a hot summer day, a cool cider is a nice change. They have a fine product and it is worth the stop. Oh, the Watermill Winery is home here too, but try the cider, you will be glad you did.

Though less alcoholic in content than wine, Hard Ciders are gaining popularity for good reason: a combination of taste, texture (bubbles in some cases) and mild tastes as well as aloohol, makes this product an interesting to the usual wine-tasting experience. Though they do offer some wines for tasting, the focus of this Cidery is Hard Cider. Tastes range from various types of apples to raspberry and cherry. I recommend a full tasting. I think these ciders are a fine alternative to sparkling wines and those hard-core wine tasters who are looking for someting a bit different and worthy of a fine palette.

I actually tried their cider at my brothers house and decoded to visit and see what they have to offer. This is a typical tasting room and it has that comfortable feel. The hard cider choices are decent and pleasant to drink. I took a couple of bottles home to share.

Coming from Portland, going winery hopping in Walla Walla WA can be easy, a lot of fun, but also a little intimidating, especially when there are so many wineries to choose from. So like many, I try to pack in as many wineries to visit as I can in a weekend. However, I must say that after a full day of wine, it is nice to taste something else aside from wine. My friend and I came across a little town on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley called Milton Freewater and found a cidery, The Blue Mountain Cidery, where they make the traditional hard ciders (their cherry cider is delicious), and a little boutique chocolate shop, Petits Noirs, that makes hand made truffles that pair with wines. I tasted a toasted anise truffle and an oak chestnut chocolate that were really elegant on the palate. we bought some chocolates and had it with some Isenhower Cellars' Syrah wine, and loved the lavender truffle and tobacco chocolate with it. Anyway, I thought the cidery and chocolate shop was noteworthy for people interested in exploring another side to Walla Walla.
