What a surprise for us California's. It was a bit of drive but the scenery was wonderful. We went on a Sunday as the wineries are only open Wed. - Sunday. When we drove up we were surprised to find so many cars. It was busy, small wineries, although they were very friendly. We really enjoyed the day

We visit all of the Sonoita/Elgin wineries at least once a year and this is always a stop....won't disappoint!

If you read past reviews about Callaghan's wine tasting facility being rustic, you should have seen it six months ago. Great improvements have taken place inside and out, according to my daughter who brought me here. She and her husband came back because of the wine, and were happy to see the improvements. I was impressed by the wine and got to meet Kent, the owner and winemaker. Lisa, the server in the wine tasting room had a hand in the facility upgrades. I live in Washington State wine country and love and appreciate red wines. The red wines at Callahan's are surprisingly good. I really fell for the 2012 Padres, a blend of four red grapes. It is super. They also had an equally good 2009 Padres on hand. I bought both. Our group were wine club members, so we had our own glasses and did not have to pay a fee. Both Todd and Lisa were very congenial. This is a must visit in this area. http://callaghanvineyards.com/

This winery has the fullest and most intense red wines in Sonoita. Well worth the trip! Try their cabernets, they are some of the best we've ever tasted!

On a one-afternoon wine tasting tour of the Sonoita/Elgin area, we visited Dos Cabezas Wineworks, Lightning Ridge Cellars, Sonoita Vineyards, and Callaghan Vineyards. While I have visited many wineries and have a fairly good base of comparison, I haven’t visited any others in the Sonoita area and thus can’t compare these to other Sonoita area wineries. We were blown away by the quality of the Callaghan wines. Easily the best of the four wineries we visited in the Sonoita/Elgin area, and probably the best that I have tried anywhere in Arizona (areas west of Sedona), New Mexico (Sante Fe/Taos), and Texas (Fredericksburg area). Very, very good wines.Although the winery and vineyards are in a very nice setting, the tasting room itself was a bit disappointing. It was very crowded and a bit disorganized, and there was too much "stuff" around (posters, things for sale, signs, etc.). The tasting room was actually just an area of a much larger winery warehouse, with lots of boxes piled up in the background. The focus here is definitely on the wine and not so much on the ambience.Still, I think Callaghan's is a definite must-stop if you are visiting wineries in the area.

Winemaker Kent Callaghan is simply on point with his wines. The 2013 sampling of Grenache, Mourvedre, and Tanant bottling are old-world styled gems. Great tasting room in the heart of Sonoita farmland.

Callaghan is always on our list when we visit the Elgin-Sonoita area, and we're never disappointed. Some of the best white wines in Arizona and the hostesses are always helpful and informative.

One of the other guests said that this was the oldest of the Elgin wineries- not sure if that is true but it was very nice to be able to sit outside and visit while we sipped our wine.

As a person with a less sophisticated pallet, I was not sure what to try, they took the time to help me pick different types of wines and I even found a" red" I loved in Padre. It's really nice that despite it being incredibly crowded, they educated us on their wines, and made sure we were happy and trying wines we ordinarily might not have, expensive? Yes, but so worth it for both the wine, and the service. A must visit if you've ever considered a wine tasting. No snobs here, but incredibly knowledgeable, nice people.

The experience was just fine. Didn't care for the wines unfortunately. The price was reasonable and the staff attentive and knowledgable.

We visited Callaghan this past weekend once for a tasting and a second time for the blending seminar. What a blast! Kent was very helpful, and went out of his way to explain the origins of the new grapes we were blending from, and he listened intently to everybody's feedback when the blending was complete. It was a super fun afternoon, and we can't wait to go do it again. Thank you, Callaghan Vineyards for good wines and good times!

I went with a couple friends and was surprised! Arizona has great wines. We started here, with their awesome big glasses! They were very helpful and guided all of us so that we all could taste the wines of our liking. I was the BIG red guy and loved the Tempranillo! so good! Loved this place and talking to the owner so cool! Will be back for more!

We loved our visit here! Owner, Kent Callaghan, was wrapping up the harvest and was pressing in the back. We were the only visitors at that time, so he took us through the whole process! Then we picked our wines, tasted several and bought a mixed case of Backlot, Lisa's and Claire's. I liked the wines so much, I ordered 3 additional cases to serve at my in-law's 50th Anniversary Party--they were a huge hit! I've seen lots of the Facebook posts since our visit and just love what they've done in the tasting room. It's just lovely! Definitely stop in.

This was a very small winery. The staff member was not very nice and made you feel like you were putting her out by coming to a tasting. There was a candle burning to cover the smell of the winery but there shouldn't be a candle burning when trying wines, it throws off your senses. We were not happy with any of the wines here. I do not recommend... Keep driving down the road there are many many better wineries!
