The trail was well marked. The waterfalls were beautiful. It seemed a bit strenuous in places for someone who sits at a desk 8+ hours a day but for the most part was easy to handle. Take your time and enjoy it. We only went to the wolf den and turned back around to go back to the car. We really enjoyed this hike.

Hiked the entire 6+ miles of Wolf Den loop and saw a hummingbird nest, the wolf den, waterfalls and a HUGE pine tree that took 3 adults, holding hands to circle the trunk! GREAT HIKE and lots to see!

Wolfden Loop combines five miles of the Pine Mountain Trail (trail mile 23 thru 18) with a 1.7 mile Beaver Pond Trail to get back to the parking lot at the WJSP-TV tower. The trail begins among abundant mountain laurels that were in peak bloom in mid-May. The trail of rocky switchbacks and rock canyons is above running water... we could hear water falls for half mile or so... then the trail drops down and crosses Cane Creek numerous times (stepping rocks and small bridges) zigging and zagging with the creek and passes by numerous falls in addition to the named falls such as Czonka Falls, Cascade Falls and the Wolfden Cave. Cascade Falls is about two miles in. After that the trail climbs the rock formations above Wolfden cave and follows a number of ridges with relatively boring woodland views (trail felt long here and pack heavy). This part of the trail would be nicer before spring leafing or with fall colors. Trail passes a number of primitive camp sites that require reservations.Thought we were done, then arrived at the Beaver Pond Trail intersection and realized there was another 1.7 miles to go. The views from that trail made up for it. This loop is a little too long for small kids but older ones will fare OK if they have adequate water and rest stops. All in all, a nice trail of moderate length and difficulty. There is one climb where we gain about a hundred feet in a short distance. Trail is well marked with powder blue blazes on the PMT and white blazes on the Beaver Pond Trail --- the volunteers in the Pine Mountain Trail Assoc. do a great job keeping the trail in good condition. We look forward to hiking this trail again.http://www.georgiatrails.com/gt/Wolfden_Loop

The Wolf's Den section of the Pine Mountain Trail is wonderful for beginning hikers. The Pine Mountain Trail Association keeps trails better marked than any trail I've hiked in any state. An overlook section has been added to this trail in the last few years. The trail is moderate in ability and is very scenic with the waterfalls and creek crossings. Most people walk to the falls first then either return to the parking or continue the loop. I prefer to save the falls for the end of the hike and I take the first left on the loop trail. This route will leave you with a workout hiking up from the falls at the end of the seven plus miles. I usually choose to hike on other sections of the trail when I'm hiking alone or with my husband because we encounter fewer people on the other sections. If you have a problem, someone is almost always around to help you here. Also keep in mind that cell phones work on most sections. Since I frequently hike alone, I keep the park office number programmed in my phone. 911 works in at least one county the trail uses. I've never needed either but it can be added security for an unsure hiker.
