Follow trails to see Birds, flowers, trees, grasses, ponds and reptiles in a quiet natural habitat. Has a glass wall in house looking out at birds eating and drinking. We went in February SOS no Martins or Bluebirds but we did see Cardinals, Blue Jays, that big Comorant-like water bird, hawks, robins. It was a warm and delightful. But remember to spray, and check for ticks.

This peaceful wildlife reserve is our favorite place to visit whenever we visit our daughter in Tallahassee. So far we’ve been to Birdsong three times in spring. Inside the main house is a large, unobstructed one-way-vision Bird Window. The birds couldn’t see us, so they were not startled by people moving around. What great close up views, while comfortably seated on couches! Good opportunities for birdwatching and photography. The window looks out on a short stump stocked with food, a food-stocked saucer on the ground, and a mossy cascade above a small pool of water. The semitropical vegetation (palmettos, etc.) around these attractions. makes the experience more enjoyable for us northerners. Outside, there are twelve miles of trails. The ones we’ve been on were all easy walking. A numbered trail map is available. The Listening Place, a screened pavilion by Big Bay Swamp is another great spot. There you’ll find an attractive water lily-filled pond bordered by bald cypress. A rustic old farmhouse is one of the attractive outbuildings on the premises. On our two visits to Birdsong on early May afternoons, we saw brown headed nuthatches, bobwhites, pine warblers, gnatcatchers, a soaring swallow tailed kite, and a colorful male ruby throated hummingbird, male redstart, and bathing parula warbler, among others. Insects were not a problem when we were there. To reach this soothing, serene place, we took Meridian Rd./Rte. 155 north from Tallahassee, about a 30-40 minute drive from the central part of the city. Birdsong is four miles over the Georgia border and is south of Thomasville. It’s well worth the $5 per adult admission ($2.50 for children

This is a special place. My adult children choose to revisit every time they are in town. Many trails with excellent birding. In farmhouse large window for bird watching. A "must visit" locations for birding and mild walking.

If you're just passing through south GA and want to know what the land in this area of GA is like, this is the place to visit. It's very peaceful and has a nice variety of birds to watch thru the wonderful, huge glass window. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to linger very long at the window. The birds we saw are the same as those we see out our back porch every day - cardinals, tit mouse, chic a dee. It would have been fun to linger longer and see other varieties. We took the loop walk and stopped at the screen enclosed building and saw a heron. Again, we see those regularly at home. The land in the park is typical of south GA so one can gain a true feel for the area by visiting here. Note: Because of the extremely mild winter we've had all over the state this year, unfortunately the gnats and mosquitoes are already in abundance in south GA. Wear/take bug spray with you if you plan to be outdoors for more than a few minutes.

Lots of different sites there to see the birds and nature hikes. Huge old moss covered oak trees. You will learn about birds. It's far from town but worth the trip. Fun fistivals too.

Typical south Georgia farmhouse of early 1900's. Beautiful heart of pine plank flooring and beaded walls and ceiling. Bird window with many permanent, seasonal and migrating visitors. Natural landscaping. Butterfly garden, 11 miles of hiking trails through varied habitats. Five springs and water features. "Listening Place" wildlife viewing shelter. Abundance of seasonal wildflowers. History of prescribed burns to maintain habitats. Knowledgeable staff and tour guides. Special events and opportunities for membership and to volunteer.

Songbird is an old South Georgia plantation that gives you a chance to escape. There are great hiking trails that you experience the natural landscape. Also there is a bird viewing room in the main house. A wall was removed and replaced with a large pane of glass. You can sit on couches and watch the numerous species of birds that flock to the water and food placed there by the staff. One afternoon we counted twenty different varieties of birds enjoying the refreshments. There are also old farm buildings and an observation house built near a wet land. Birdsong is a few miles north of the Florida/Georgia border.

Not too far North of the city of Tallahassee (on Meridian Rd.) is the Birdsong Nature center. If you are searching for peace and quiet while enjoying the opportunity to view a variety of birds (including Great Blue Herons) this is great place to go. A former private farm, the farmhouse has been converted to an information center with a large picture window through which you can observe beautiful cardinals, wrens, blackbirds and woodpeckers--among others. Out on one of the trails is a remote screened-in room in which you can listen to (if not watch) Herons and others for hours. They also have a butterfly garden active in the summer months. Great space to bring a picnic lunch and spend some time bird-watching or just relaxing in the beautiful, peaceful South Georgia woods. Nominal cost of $5/adult which can be added into membership fee if you know you are returning.

If you are into hiking then the trails at Birdsong should work. Bring water and insect repellent.
