We had rain on our first morning. Go up the outdoor escalator amazing in itself. Even my husband, non fashion, enjoyed this fantastic show of how couture is done. Yes Go

This museum is located in Getaria, a small town about 25 KM west of San Sebastian. The museum is dedicated to the famed revolutionary French designer Cristobal Balenciaga. It is housed in a beautiful building designed and built for this purpose, and the museum turned out to be quite interesting. It's no surprise that our ladies enjoyed it, but we guys also found it interesting.

one of the great couturiers of our time, Balenciaga, was born in Getaria. The museum is trendy, whereas Balenciaga's creations reflect the chique-style of the 1950's and 60's. Nice to walk though all the great dresses...

If you are into fashion or art, this museum is worth a visit. It seemed the museum was much larger, but I thought there was a small collection on display. We easily did the museum in an hour and that included watching the video.

Really a fascinating Museum. Even if you don't know who he is or don't care much about Haute Couture it is quite interesting. Also the building is wonderful and larger than expected with great views over the old town. Balenciaga was one of the last complete designers. He not only could create the design but actually make the garment himself. I find it admirable that when he decided to retire, that was it. All the boutiques were closed. No one else would make something with his name on it.

Beautifully presented collection in a very well designed building. We made the half hour bus trip from San Sebastian and enjoyed most of the day in Getaria. If you are interested in art or fashion DO NOT miss this lovely museum.

The wives stayed for two hours, and could have spent longer; happily the husbands went elsewhere, so didn't rush us. There's an introductory movie in several languages; you have to push a button to queue up the one you want. The clothing displays have good explanations, are well lit, and well-spaced to handle several visitors at a time.

I knew nothing of Cristobal Balenciaga however, thoroughly enjoyed this museum and learning about this very talented man. Worth a visit if you like beautiful clothes and design.

The Balenciaga Museum is a must see. The collection is huge and well displayed. Even the museum building is gorgeous. It's worth every penny.

Just having an afternoon stroll around town in Getaria when I suddenly stumbled upon this pretty amazing building. Although not an architectural expert, the building looked pretty awesome in my opinion. Displays and exhibitions were very neat, too.

In the beginning more a additional reason to visit Getaria, but it was a highlight in the visit to San Sebastian. It was a better experience than the Guggenheim in Bilbao. Through the unique fashion approach of Balenciaga (link with architecture, art, music) the exposition gives a surprising introduction in the world of fashion. An absolute must.

Quite a surprise to find such a museum in a wee village but value for money visit. Had never heard of Balenciaga before but have now. The building itself is really modern and impressive.

A fabulous building with a really well laid out exhibition of Balenciagas fashions from his early days up until he retired.

The space is surprising - a Cuban architect attached a whole new wing to a historic house, and, more than the collection, it is interesting to get to know the story of Balenciaga. Don't miss the movie presenting the life of the couturier. Unfortunately, we do not get to see parts of the old historic house, previously a Summer residence to some old noble Spanish family.

We visited the museum while staying in Getaria. Balenciaga is a son of the town and spent his early career in nearby and ultra chic San Sebastian before moving to Paris. My partner who has little interest in fashion design acknowledged the iconic nature of the exhibits and we both loved the architecture! A fine piece of modern design.
