The old city is a maze of small streets with apparently no two running parallel. It's a brilliant place to wander and browse the shops. Discover interesting and unexpected squares with cafe and restaurant tables. I guess if we'd stayed in Barcelona a bit longer we would have eventually discovered the lay-out of the Old City. In all the tourist info that I'd read and indeed in the advice that a couple of friends had given, I was told to beware of scams and pickpockets. Obviously we took precautions but I felt totally safe and secure at all times. We will undoubtedly return to barcelona to explore the places that we didn't have time to visit.
The Ciutat Vella (Old City) is a lovely, beautiful and amazing part of this incredible city. As the name implies, this is the old (original) city of Barcelona. The architecture is exquisite, the streets & alleyways are narrow & cobblestoned, there are small restaurants, coffeeshops, cafes, bars and little plazas everywhere. Lose yourself and walk around for hours. Enjoy!
An enjoyable and interesting way to spend a day. Lots to learn and appreciate. Wear comfortable, shoes.
take your time to stroll around. Since Barcelona is a nice city , the possible opening hours of the shops should be extened to Sunday.
Every European city has an old part, a new part and a castle. The old city in Barcelona is very charismatic. The smells, sights, sounds and atmosphere are compelling - it's very easy to lose an hour just wondering aimlessly around the narrow winding lanes.
When I visit Barcelona, finally I got some spare time, then I decided to stroll around the old city area. Lots of small restaurants, numorous shops, churches etc, etc, good for time passing. Beautiful buildings, some museums, worth for wandering around if you seen all other major attractions around Barcelona!
The old areas of Barcelona are worth exploring for the ancient architecture, interesting bars and restaurants, and especially the creative and interesting shops.
I was told that at 7th Paseo of Colon (Colombus) lived Picasso for years with his parents as he has a small studio at La Plata Street which is near by. Guides don't say about it.
Definately must take a walk over here, go also inside of the Barcelona Cathedral witch is in the middle, amazing really
Stayed in this area for four nights; fascinating back streets; full of unique shops and great eating. Walk La Rambla and crowd watch; visit the churches and museums. Eat your heart out at the Boqueria Market.
It was good to visit the Jewsih quarters and understand the history behind it all - the little shops in the alleys are stunning and the people are so amazing.
it's a great place, full of history and interesting things to do, it's like having a lot to view and enjoy in one place, but careful with the pick pockets
this is the main attraction in Barcelona for our opinion ..the old city part of Barcelona is beautiful during the day and offer all kinds of night activity..dont miss it
I love the Old City of Barcelona because of its narrow streets full of interesting little shops and cafes which lead on to an amazing number of beautiful squares and exquisite gothic churches and buildings. Lots to explore
