National Palace of Pena (Palacio Nacional da Pena)太太太美丽了!

Whole area is amazing; like the alps on the coast with architecture and gardens that will make the Tuscans jealous. Hard to believe this region isn't coveted like the Cote Azure et al. Go from the palace up coast and drink it in.

If you had to chose one thing to visit in Sintra - go here! I want it for my next party house - a cornucopia of so many styles you're eyes will be spoilt for choice and obviously on the best view point besides the ruins of the moorish castle near by.

If you are in Lisbon you must come here! It is so close and you miss out if you don't see it. Tickets cost 11.5 for palace and 3 euro for bus to get you there, you can walk but it is very hilly and really not worth it as it is plenty walking inside palace so don't get yourself tired before you get there :). Busses are very new 2014 and they going constantly so you won't be waiting long. Palace itself is lovely, something out of fairytale, I can't believe somebody actually lived like this :O before. Very nice interior and exterior, it is one of best preserved place I ever seen. Beautiful even if you are not into that, you do appreciate interior. Now exterior is even better some view there. Definitely must do if you are in Lisbon, we booked private tour and that was easy to visit.

Definitely a must see place of Portugal. This palace is very cartoony from the outside. Lovely to visit and catch pictures from every angle

We were visiting family in Portugal and decided to take a 2 hour drive to Sintra to see the palace and it was totally worth it! We took the hop on hop off tour bus and made our way to the palace. Don't be fooled, once you're there it's still a walk up, but it's so beautiful! The tiles, the detail in the stone work, the colors, and the view is just enchanting.

Breathtaking views from this pastel panted and history filled place. Take the train from Lisbon Rossio to Sintra (Sintra is the last stop). If you buy a zapping card from a machine in the metro stations and top it up, it works on metro, bus, tram, ferry and trains all the way to Sintra (and Belem). It´s only a few Euros to Sintra, and trains leave from the upper floor of Rossio station where there are ticket machines and a ticket counter. From Sintra station, turn right and catch the tourist bus 434 (€5 for a round trip) which does a loop via the main town (good for lunch), then up the winding and impossibly steep road to the Moorish castle ruins, and finally the gates of Pena Palace. You can pay extra €3 at the gate for a minibus nearly all the way up the remaining steep hill. Then its a walking tour. Inside is filled with history and we were suprised by how much there was to see. Outside is stunning and the views unequalled. One tip, you can walk from the main town (first bus stop) to Quinta da Regaleira which has the magical Initiatic Well (Google it) as well as stunning grounds. If you have time to do that and the National Palace before heading to Pena, it`s worth it.

This palace is like a fairytale castle, I decided to walk up from Sintra and it was a real climb, I thought it would never end, and on entering the park I was told a further 30minute 'hike' but well worth the effort and made all the more special due to the climb. Absolutely stunning, fantastic views and the parkland if special.

Visited Palace of Pena on Valentine’s Day with my partner. Upon originally pricing the tours we thought perhaps it would be cheaper to do it ourselves! Thankfully we spoke to other people who said by the time you get the train taxis pay into the palace and trek up a mountain its worth taking a tour! It was... we would have perhaps saved €10 or so but for that walk alone the €10 was worth it!! We went with Diana Tours which was an early start at 810am but was definitely the best time to go as later on we noticed the Palace and village were extremely busy, so we got there at the right time to be able to relax and enjoy the tour, plus the lady giving the tour was brilliant... the palace itself is stunning and the views although slightly overcast on the day were beautiful! The detail throughout the tour from the walls to ceilings to furniture was stunning, my only regret was that we didn’t stay about the village a little longer to enjoy the scenery, overall I would highly recommend a visit to this romantic stunning place, a little gem just outside Lisbon!!

Wowwww what a site!!!! straight out of a fairytale. Just amazing. Its a steep walk up the hill, for only €3,- you can take a small bus that will take you to the gate of the Palacio.Only downside: very busy with tourists, Well who can blame them..??

The Palace has been recently painted and looks stunning. Nothing like I have ever seen before. Inside is interesting too but it is the outside that you go for. It is a bit of a steep walk up but you can get a bus if you need to. The walk is not bad if you take your time.
