We had coffee and kake. Their kakes and biscuits were amazing, and all made by themselves. A treat! There is no admission fee so you can go for just the caffee when out walking (or skiing!) but it would be sad to miss the exhibitions.

By visiting this museum you learn more about the people that have lived in Northern part of Scandinavia for centuries, the Sami people. But not only. There is a rock art exhibition with extensive information and opportunities to try carving the rock yourself; Ski exhibition with the world's oldest ski; the textile exhibition that makes you travel in time and learn more about different fashion's throughout time. You can also see the first car in the region from 1900. An finally, the memories exhibition, with everything that brings you back in time to get the sense of the life in the region in the past. Worth a visit, is free for everyone and they claim to have a nice cafe, which I haven't visited but maybe you should give it a try.

The best place to know history of Vasterbottens, including clothes, building and ski...It has a main building and some affiliated outside building like old farm are also interesting. As time I went there, there was a great historic market of 19th century

Lots of history to been seen at the museum. We spent 2 days there as there wasn't enough time to see it all in 1 day. We went on a tour around the village and learnt all about the scandinavian lifestyle with a very enthusiastic interesting fella who was a pleasure to listen to. We walked from the town centre, it took about 30 mins to get there but we walked slow as it was so so hot when we were there.

Nice museum, big and interesting, in close walking distance from the town centre, I walked there, it's on the top of a hill, inside a beautiful park, with the nature close by, it's a nice place where to spend a beautiful relaxing afternoon learning something on the life in the area in the past centuries. If you have kids they'll love it as there are also many animals they can look and feed.

We went on the opening day of the summer season back in June, when the outdoor areas were open for the first time. Whilst extensive, too many of the buildings, which were supposed to show how people in the area lived hundreds of years ago, were locked shut. Some were open, like the schoolhouse and a barn. Other outdoor attractions were fairly interesting, and worth a walk round. Considering it's a free museum, it's a good morning out. The indoor attractions varied from the interesting (local rock art, the fiery destruction of Umea!) to the almost-mundane (a wall of skis!), but there's enough to hold the interest. Outdoors is more interesting than indoors, though.

Traditional outdoor park and interesting exhibitions inside. Worth a visit during the warm season to stroll around the buildings.

A short 15-20 minute walk from city centre allows you to sample nature in a wooded area that hosts this beautiful facility. Really enjoyed the visit and opportunity to see the olde worlde preserved homesteads and farm buildings; wonderful. The exhibitions within the museum building were also of a high standard; enjoyed the history associated with skis

When I went there, they were doing some work so the permanent collection was nowhere to be found. Instead, I viewed a photo exhibition with focus on American youth in the sixties and seventies. It was quite raw and fascinating. I'll definitely come nack for the real thing one day!

It was very interesting to see all the stuff they offered. A little stiff prices but everything looked handmade. Hot glogg and cookies is a must in wintertime.
