This place is dedicated to fallen Soviet soldiers who died during 2nd WW. Its a really nice and quiet place, good for a walk during the day. In this area there are their graves as well.Slavin is situated on the hill but its easy to reach the place. From Hodzovo namestie (square) you can take trolleybus n. 207 or 203 then get off on Budkova stop. From there turn to the right (go back a bit) and just go to the first wide street. At the end you will find it.You can also go by walk if you are visiting the castle, its the same way.You might need half an hour - 1 hour to walk around the place, depends on you :)

First class views of the city, The monument is very much of the 'Soviet' ie large but not aesthetically pleasing. I was travelling at the beginning of March, so not much there really.

Not all tourist guidebooks cover Slavin or make it sound like it's worthwhile visiting. This is a mistake. It's a tranquil place that's a fitting tribute to the fallen Soviet soldiers. The site itself is well-maintained. Signs with maps point out what to see, including the Hall of Farewell with the obelisk (from the outside only), Alexander Dubček's Peace Meadow, a Russian wooden cross and World War II military bunkers. Some people praise the view of the city from Slavin. Frankly, I didn't find this a good place from which to get city photos. There are much better places to do this (such as the UFO-shaped observatory on the main bridge, Most SNP).Perhaps people are put off visiting as they're unsure how to get to Slavin. If you like walking, it's an easy walk from the Old Town. No need for a bus or car. To avoid roaming charges on my phone, I printed out screenshots of the route from Google Maps before I left home. Navigating on the way up is easy, as you're basically just heading to the top of the hill. I went up early on a Sunday morning and felt perfectly safe, as Slavin is in a well-to-do suburb. It would have been much trickier to have found a good route from Slavin to Bratislava Castle (my next stop) without any guidance, but was straightforward with my Google Maps printouts - and a nice walk through a suburb dotted with many countries' embassies.

It is a monument devoted to 2nd WW. It is situated on the hilll o Bratislava with amazing view on all sides. It feels like you have Bratislava on the palm of your hand. It give you totaly different perspective on the city.Tha monument is nothing unique but gives you an overview of dates when different Slovak cities have been freed from Nacis.

We walked to the peak of Slavin memorial from the castle & it probably took 20-30 minutes - just be sure to know where you're going as we didn't see many signs.A trick we used is to use our mobiles to look at google maps using free Wifi in our hotel to load the area up & have a look round. Then, whilst we were walking there, we would load google maps back up & the GPS would pin point our location. The fact that we'd already opened the map up earlier that day meant it was in the cache of our phone so we weren't charged for roaming.Anyway, onto the memorial itself, it's set high up with some good views over the city. There's a few signs where you can read how the 6500 Soviets lost their lives liberating Bratislava during WW2 in a number of languages (including English).Number of statues make up the memorial & there's some individual graves as well as the mass graves on the sight.Well worth the trek to see it all & glad we did it.

The Soviets liberated Slovakia at the end of WWII, but many perished. This is a monument to them. This is a beautiful public park (which is really a cemetary) in a very high end neighborhood. I visited with a post soviet tour. Gorgeous views! Would have liked to stay longer if it were warmer that day!

Altough Slavin is in a public park, no dogs are allowed. For this reason we didn't see the statue properly, but se scenery and landscape are amazing from top of the hill where Slavin is located. Much embassys in the neighbourhood, if you like the see different kinds of architecture.

It's quite high up but we walked there from the centre of bratislava and didn't take all that long. It has nice views over the city and looked very nice in the snow. Be careful if it's icey though, my friend slipped on the steps and seriously injured her elbow...

We spent thirty minutes at this interesting monument which honors nearly 7'000 Soviet soldiers who were killed during 1944/45. Weather was great so we enjoyed a great view onto Bratislava.

This war memorial is well worth a look, it is similar to other memorials to the WW2 Red Army in other European cities and has a poignant atmosphere due to the well tended war graves at the site. Be warned though the climb to reach it is pretty steep.

About a 15 min uphill walk from the castle, lovely views over the city. An interesting monument and cemetery

It is a war memorial built in honour of Slovak soldiers who fell during World war - 2. The location around that area is scenic and gives you an aerial view of Bratislava capital.Closet bus stop: SavTipsThere are no sign posts to direct you to Slavin. But from the city (Sav stop) there are about 200 odd steps to climb to reach Slavin. It shouldn't take more than 15 - 20 min to reach on the top

If you can get the bus, get the bus....as the hike isn't the easiest. However, it gave a gorgeous view of the city and was a lovely walk up.

In winter the site was very quiet and solemn, very appropriate and conducive to appreciating history and the sacrifice of those buried there. The monument is on top of a hill providing good views of the city, though there are plenty of more central places to do this as well (Old Town Hall, St. Michael's Tower, etc).

We got a bus up the main hill to save on time, and energy. Once up a little road with lots of embassies we came across this and it was beautiful and very moving.
