We've had a stop in Domodossola during our journey back home. There is really nothing to do for a tourist and nothing to visit.Perhaps it's because of the winter season but everything seems to have a grey shadow.

Take your time to visit this lovely border town, which is not just "the big Saturday market crowded with Swiss people or a train stop on the international railway line"!There's a lot to be discovered! The old town is traffic free and full of old, elegant buildings and 15th-century porticoes. Lovely cafés and restaurants everywhere. Palazzo Silva is a beautifully preserved renaissance building right in the town centre. Hire a taxi (a 5 minutes' drive) and get to the Sacro Monte Calvario, a Unesco world heritage site with many chapels decorated with terracotta and wooden statues. Over there you can also see the ruins of a medieval fortress, a convent and there's a nice view over Domodossola!

weekly streetmarket on saturday's, but overloaded with clothes and bag's. The restaurants arround the railway should be avoided. Lot of german people coming for shopping and crowding the streets.

It's my first time visiting this small town- actually I have just moved here for the next year.First impressions are ok.The town is rather small, but very picturesque.Nice architecture all around. The city center offers a pleasant walk.Everywhere you turn there is a bar or a restaurant,so it seems really relaxing in a way, like you're on a vacation. The only minus is that the city does not have a park,so you're stuck walking your dog on asphalt- if you don't take the car and go out of town somewhere into the wild.

Easy to reach from Milan by train or car, perfect for access into mountains and lakes. friendly and charming but dont expect everyone to speak English

It was definitely worth our while stopping here in transit between Ticino and the Valais in Switzerland for a meal and some shopping. It's a very pleasant place for a wander and there are lots of places to eat. There is a convenient Coop supermarket opposite the railway station along with several restaurants and gelatarie. Full of Swiss people who, like us, were there for some bargain shopping and a meal.

Here on a Saturday for the local market which takes over the entire town. Lots of stalls, some tatt, but a few gems. A number of good little bakeries dotted about. Buy some of the local pastries or biscuits for a tasty nibble later. Plenty of cafes, many of which offer free nibbles with your drinks. Locals and tourists clearly come to the market from miles around. I came here to catch the Centovalli railway.

Domodossola was fine. It appears a little industrial, but is a local market town with many good discount shops for Swiss shoppers. It is difficult to recommend staying for more than a day or so, unless you have specific cycling or hiking goals in mind.

We had a short walk around this time whilst filling in time prior to catching the train. The shops were extremely varied and well worth a visit. The old part of the town contained many interesting buildings. I just wish that we could have spent more time here.

Only visited here to use the F.A.R.T. Tramway to Locarno in Switzerland and enjoyed the brief visit. Very friendly people and this would be great place to base yourself for so many day trips to places like Val Formazza, for the Falls and Crodo for some of the worlds best bread. However do not miss the trip on this spectacular tramway. The views are outstanding and route has to be seen to be believed. No one would attempt to build this today. One word of warning though and that is, Do not take photographs of the view from the Swiss/Italian Border. We were told in very strong terms that it is not permitted by the Guards at the crossing point but given no reason. The snow made this trip even more spectacular. If in the Domodossola area then make this trip as Locarno too is well worth a visit. Like wise if in Locarno then do the trip in the other direction.

Being the owner of the famous bed and Breakfast, La Casa del Giardiniere, near Lake Maggiore, we are constanly being asked for places to go that are a bit off the tourist track.Well only about 40 minutes drive from Stresa, down the super strada to Domodossola and you arrive into another world. The journey is littered with Alpine hillside villages, all full of interesting.Using Domodossola as your hub venture into the mountains via Crodo, famous for it's mountain breads, cheeses, and yogurts...there is a lovely shop and cafe where you could buy provisions for a picnic. Another 30 minutes up the mountain tracks brings you to Baceno, where you have a choice one road forks to the right and takes you to the Toce river waterfalls in Val Formazza, spectacular the highest in Europe, plus some stunning walks. My favourite is to take the left fork at Baceno and head for a circular walk around Alpe Devero taking in the picturesque village of Crampiolo...I have not had a guests who hasn't returned brimming with thanks, and photographs to remember for a life time. Believe me there awaits a rare treat in store. For me a day in Alpe Devero is loke takinga weeks holiday, the air, the silence, the scenery..bellissimo

A bit noisy on the weekend (local people in the restaurants and bars of the old town) very quiet during the week.
