I was a bit lost and gave in and took a cab to this museum, which is a bit out of the way. The cabbie was very helpful and took me to the shop entrance but I was able to find the museum around the corner. Friendly, helpful staff and an interesting history of paprika and szalami - and what's not to like about free samples? I only wish they had salami earrings to go with my Spam earrings from the US. :) If you are a vegetarian, you might not like one of the huge photos of a deceased Mr. Piggie being prepared for Szalami. Over all, a fun visit. You also get a discount coupon to take back to the shop.

Make sure you check the (very limited) opening times before arrival. Don't expect anything special, but if you are in Szeged with some free time on your hand then it's worth checking it out.

You get to see the historical salami-making process, taste salami, and a bag of paprika powder! A post-card with postage is included in the ticket.

On the lower level the history of Pick salami and the salami factory, on the upper level the history of production of the Szeged paprika can be seen. Through the Pick-collection the guests can follow the story of the factory and the salami production from the year of foundation (1869) up to these days. On the upper floor, visitors can learn about the evolution of paprika production from the initial methods to the current technologies used by the Szegedi Paprika Co. Ltd. Among the objects, the museum is showing the subject with photos, and document illustrated tableaus, making it more colourful and interesting with life-sized wooden puppets wearing period dresses. Legends can be read in Hungaian, English and German.

Visited the Pick Museum while visiting with a group in Szeged. These days, production is automated. What makes this museum so interesting is its history - looking at the photos of people from long ago, sitting on the ground, harvesting and cleaning peppers by hand. Makes you appreciate how easy we have it! Very close to the Novotel, which is very popular with visitors from the U.S. Just a fun place to see.

quick 15 min tour of the history of pick salami and szegedi paprika. fun, free tasting at the end of tour. best part was you could write a postcard and they'd send it anywhere in the world for you (no postage to be paid!) also funny photo op when you enter. must do if you are in szeged.

Salami and paprika both honored and explained in this museum. It is not a large place but it is well laid out and has enough memorabilia and machinery to hold the narrative together. If you've ever given a moment's thought to what was in your salami this is the place to get all of that sorted. The museum is on the waterfront of the Tisza River and convenient to the other attractions of this city. There is salami and paprika for sale at the museum. At the end of my visit I was offered a sample of the salami. Pretty good stuff.

I am a big foodie so I was looking forward to visiting a food museum for salami and paprika! It turned out to be disappointing. It cost 14,500 HUF for one adult. Overpriced in my opinion, I could have gone for gelato and a cappucino instead. The museum itself is tiny. The first floor covers salami and the second covers paprika. It is pretty much walls of typed writing describing the process of making salami and paprika. Warning: Probably best not to bring any vegetarians to the salami floor because the description of how salami is made goes into detail about the slaughter of pigs and the tools used are on display. What is nice about this museum? The door prizes! You get a free sample of Pick salami on a slice of white bread. They give you a stamped post card, a table to write on, and the mailbox is right inside the museum. So you can send home a postcard right away, in the museum! They also give a small sample of paprika to take away as a souvenir. They also give you a discount coupon to spend at their "gift shop" which is a small deli in the building, which sells Pick products: Pork and Salami.Next door is the Pick restaurant. I didn't stay for a meal. Maybe next time.

Pick Museum is dedicated to the most famous Hungarian Pick Salami. Entrance is 890HUF and for that money you can see whole process of making Pick Salami. The secret ingredient is Hungarian powder pepper. It was descovered that the pepper from Hungary has the most % of vitamin C in the world.Museum is easy to find. Go to Tisza river, New Szeged, walk along promenade, pass Ferenz Mora Museum, Stefania and you will see post-comunist building on the left side with Pick logo.Enjoy your visit!
