We visited this small museum and we were so impressed with the exhibit. For anyone who loved the book or movie of Mutiny on The Bounty this is a must see. It is where one of the authors of the book lived with his family. The house is beautifully restored and there are many books, possessions, and photographs of James Norman Hall and his family on display. We were guided by a lady who gave a good account of the family and their history. It was well worth a visit.

A must for anyone interested in Pacific history. The house is fabulously maintained including the garden, Also, the food is great but must be ordered a day ahead.

We had a real treat as we visited the former home of James Norman Hall. We had it all for ourselves !The house has been transferred a few metres away from the road to avoid fumes and noises. It is sitting around a charming well maintained mini botanical garden. It's a real gem to have it to yourself unless you are unlucky to get a cruise ship tour ! The house has been preserved in it original form and is full of pictures, memento and original furnitures from the family. Vivienne, one of the staff was at hand to offer a lot of information and also talked about her involvements with inhabitants of Pitcairn island. I learnt a lot from her, I knew about the Mutiny of the Bounty but never queried about the authors ! It has been a great learning curves to visit the house of James Norman Hall. At the time of the visit, his daughter Nancy Hall was in Papeete and she had signed copies of her father's books on sale at the reception. Not only do I leave with a signed copy of the Bounty Trilogy but I also got a signed copy of the commemorative book on the Nordhoff-Hall Story and great postcards !This is a historic lived-in house of modest size but it has a lovely garden and easy to find on the main road. One can purchase a soft drink from the reception and sit out on the shady terrace oustide. We did ask about the original bread fruit tree taken by Captain Bligh to Jamaica- The original tree is not in the garden, it is located by the school a few metres away across the road on beach front. There are not many writers' house you can visit in the world , especially in the Pacific so this one is a must ! If like me you are driving from Papeete , the green house is on your right but car park is opposite on the other side of the road- don't worry, just carry on to the next round about and turn right to park inside the Town Hall (Arue Mairie) car park, free of charge !

We happened upon this stop by happenstance and so glad we did. This tour took us throughout the home of the author of the Mutiny on the Bounty. The home is well preserved, is stunning with breezes coming through the home and very interesting. The tour guide was very informative and gracious. She gave us an expedited version of the your and captured the essence of the author and his life.

Of course we had to visit this home/museum as we are descendants of the mutineers and their Tahitian wives. The story told by James Norman Hall is our history. We were amazed to see photos of familiar ancestors on the walls and John Adams prayer! The two ladies who showed us around were - Nina Kennedy and Tere Fieanou (hope I have spelled your names correctly) were lovely. Beautifully kept grounds and home - a pleasure to visit. Enjoyed sitting outside Mama LaLa's cafe under the old mango tree and enjoying a cool drink while soaking up the atmosphere. A tour group rushed in and out while we were there - I'm sure they missed the "feeling" of the home - like anything in Tahiti - if you take the time to ponder - you will be richly rewarded - we were. Thank you to Nancy (James' daughter) for continuing the foundation that funds this museum. Wonderful.

During a shore excursion, we stopped to visit the James Norman Hall Home. It was very interesting. Although this is not the original house, all artefacts are family owned. Mr Hall’s daughter Nancy was there that day and passed on a few stories to us and her husband Nick explained all the military memorabilia to us. For Mutiny on the Bounty fans, this was a nice piece of history still preserved for all to enjoy. Recommended.

While not included in all around the island tours, it is worth seeing if you have the chance. Yes, the house itself is a reconstruction, but to exact specifications of the original which was located where the main road is now. The museum is small but well organized and with interesting artifacts from Mr. Hall's quite interesting life. The custodians who welcomed us were extremely pleasant and left us to view exhibits at our leisure. There is even a small refreshment area.
