Navy Island was once a beautifully landscaped island with a hotel and a number of small bungalows for rent. The vegetation has won the contest, and the lush plants and trees have absorbed much of the introduced species into the local biosphere. A fun place to walk around and explore, with a couple of small beaches on the north side, ironshore on the east side, and a small dock near the hotel ruins on the south side. Watch for the mating pair of barn owls on the east side of the hotel, but do not disturb them.

It was ok can't really say much more.... not a lot to do there than walk around.. no restaurant, no bar no nothing... disappointing :(

it just a small island with not too many things to see or do. Maybe is better spend the day at the beach

Navy Island was at one time owned by Errol Flynn, the actor who sailed into Port Antonio, fell in love with the city and ended up buying Navy Island. It is about a half-mile from the Errol Flynn Marina. There used to be a hotel on the island but it has ceased operation and until recently, the city's coast guard unit used to hold parties on the beach but that has also stopped. Now the island is densely populated only by lush trees. A group of investors want to build a resort on the property but are meeting with stiff opposition from some locals.

Wear better shoes than flip flops. There are rough trails and they are continuously overrun with jungle. Not sure if there are actual caretakers to the property once owned by the later actor Errol Flynn. Portions of a ruined resort, as well as Flynn's home/pool are still visible and accessible, but beware of dangers due to rotting wood, hornets nest...A "rasta" makes his home somewhere on the island, so don't be surprised if he emerges from the vines. He may try to sell you something or trade.

I enjoyed trekking to the beach on the far side...It was beautiful. I also enjoyed the beautiful views of the rest of Port Antonio from there.

Apparently there is an old abandoned hotel but not a lot else - you might get a local to take you but no idea what for

navy island is an uninhabited tropical island 10 minutes travel time by kayak off the coast of port antonio jamaica.the leeward side of the island is an important nesting site for a large population of egrets,wheras the windward side is difficult to traverse as the terrain consists primarily of sharp coral rock.the island was formerly owned by the notorious hollywood film star errol flynn who according to the local newspaper,the daily gleaner on his death commented,"he loved more women,drank more booze and got into more scrapes than anyone in the history of hollywood". after flynns demise the property reverted to a funky boutique hotel with adjoining privately owned cottages,,but for the last 20 years the property has been reclaimed by the jungle..my neighbor rueben and i bicycled our infatable kyaks to a nearby coastal beach park (the erroll flynn marina) and set off on the short paddle cross the harbour channel and decided to explore the ruinate and soak up some of its debaucherous history.Feeling adventurous,we decided to circle the entire island along its coast,traveling clockwise from our landing site..the first half is easy traveling past abandoned villas and deserted beaches..upon reaching the coral headlanes however all but the most rugged footwear is soon shredded..unprepared in our lightwait water socks,we headed inland whereupon we discovered a giant tortoise shell illegally poached for the meat..after some debate,we decided to carry it home and headed inland to what appeared to be an abandoned golf course whose grass had grownabout 5 feet tallso only ones head could be seen..take two steps and the undergrowth sucked the shoes off your feet..now the midday tropical sun was starting to take its toll and we slowly reversed and sought relief in a thicket of dwarf almond trees with exposed roots similar to mangroves..this was even more difficult terrain..at one point i fell among the roots and couldnt extract myself without reubens help..both exhausted,we decided the torrtoise shell was a curse and we abandoned it..continuing only by scrambling along the tops of the dwarf almonds..eventually we spotted a small coconut palm..picked 2 and smashed them qpen against a rock..revived,we found an overgrown path..then a wild gros michel banana tree appeared and we gorged ourselves,laughing like madmen..another hour along abandoned paths and we were back to our boats....and giving thanks...
